Bakery Gourment

Brief from client

Personal job

great logo that features a chef holding a flag with a loaf of bread fresh from the oven and with his other hand makes a gesture that the bread is tasty. The style is retro with light green, light orange and light blue in addition to black.

"Great logo"... What don't you let us be the judges of that?

The very first thing that buggers me is that it's not centered, which is giving some serious OCD.

The chef's left hand looks really weird. I know what you tried to do but it looks like it's smoking a doobie. And what is it his mouth or a moustache?

I can sense a good eye for design but all of this seems too quickly put together.

Good start, but at a smaller size the baker looks more like he's saluting or as Charlie said, toking. An old school trick to illustrating figures is to look at them in silhouette, if you can't immediately recognize the action in this form chances are it will be difficult to see it when fully rendered. I like the font but your letter spacing needs much help, don't rely on the computer getting it right, use your eye. It might be my computer but the bread looks peach colored, like a big hunk of foie gras (ummmmmmm), you might want to try a warmer toasty bread crust hue.

One thing I like about this is how the colors are offset from their outlines, it's a nice stylistic touch. It makes the logo seem more relaxed and friendly somehow. You may consider filling in the background of the circle with a very pale shade of one of your colors, offset in a similar way, to help the chef stand out from the background. The bread may be slightly too large, I don't think it needs to go from edge to edge on the platter.

However, as has already been pointed out it's not centered, and that definitely needs to be corrected. The font selection is nice, though.

I'd also agree that the face/hand details are strange. The hand gesture in front of the face doesn't work well, I recommend turning the arm more vertically so the hand is next to the head. This will provide more clarity.

All in all I'd say this is a very good start, and with some refinement could be the beginning of something great.
