Brief from client
To create a logo for a company selling organic dog food.
they would like the the logo to be in the style of old beer mats and vintage looking.
Include an image of a wolf or dog that doesn't look too angry

I prefer this version versus others. I don't think that you need a roundel and all that connects to it on each side. Dog on its own with a bit more refining would stand solid on a white background. " Est. 2016 " is fine on its own against a white background. Keep one color, it will work fine. Make upper and lower text equal in width. Have you tried to place upper text below dog's main and arched above lower text and see how it will play out? Good, solid work!
That wolf, there... Clip art? =)
haha no not clip art, I traced an image but I am working on a new wolf! watch this space! :)
BTW which version do you prefer?
To be honest, I tend to have mixed feelings about tracing. You didn't create that wolf head 100% by yourself.
I like the general style of both versions and I think they are not mutually exclusive. Both retains the same general aspects and you could keep them both.
Have you tried this version with a white background behind the wolf?
Totally gratuitously, here's a great song about a wolf: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRgJZFpoBxg
I like this arrangement very much, the only issue I have is the clean mechanical lines clash with the rough font used for the top line. The fonts overall don't complaint each other well, you have a mixture of distressed, modern and old timey. I would choose one family that fits well with the clean lines you have in the symbol and use different weights to give emphasis where you want it.
really nice start. not entirely sold on the double handled ping pong paddle behing the wolf.
