Brief from client 

BCScTA is currently looking for a strong branding message to convey to BC Teachers, science partners, community groups, political groups and other stakeholders.

The BC Science Teachers’ Association exists to:
-Promote excellence and innovation in science education throughout British Columbia
-Contribute to the improvement of curriculum and instruction in science education
-Provide recommendations and advice regarding science education
-Ensure that there is a clear and meaningful connection between science education and the needs of society today and in the future

new version with bigger head & no feet, maybe looks bare without them?

Gradient is definitely everywhere right now. Because of the gradient you would not be able to get this embroidered and it would be very difficult to screen print . So unless this is only for the internet and letterhead go ahead if you expect to use this on garments it would be very difficult to replicate.

That is true- but in this case the logo doesn't "rely" on the gradient. It works just as well in single color, which will allow for those other applications.
That is where some go wrong using all those bells and whistles to make a logo- but this logo has that covered! =)

I really love everything about this logo. I must admit from a type point of view I preferred the version with the text to the right, rather than centered and under the mark. But yeh... wow. Thumbs up here.
