Cloudtrain.io

Brief from client

Design Logo for CloudTraining.io - our slogan is zero to cloud hero. We teach programming courses for cloud technologies like Amazon Web Services, Azure, Docker, Java, Cloud Foundry, etc/

Client wants a Roboto-looking font so I had to use something similar to Roboto.

There isn't too much to say about this logo to be honest.

That cloud is almost the same exact cloud as the OneDrive logo from Microsoft, and then you put an equally generic light bulb over it. Salesforce has a cloud for their logo as well, with a similar color.

I don't understand having your URL in your logo name, unless your company's name is literally cloudtrain.io, and not Cloud Train.

FYI: Look at your cloud competition.

You are competing with companies like Salesforce, which both offer the cloud Ai service AND the training courses. You are competing with some top brands and you need to be able to stand amongst them.

Thanks for your feedback! Thank you also for letting me realize that the cloud is really a common icon to use when you say "cloud". And yes, the name of it is what the client wants.

To be fair, the cloud symbol is kinda universal and it doesn't shock me to use it in a cloud related business logo. Even less if one tricks it up.

The light bulb is pretty well integrated, although I would have set it upright. As Erin pointed out, is that it's a super general idea, but it can work if executed flawlessly and cleverly. Which is almost the case here.

One thing that really has to go, at least for me, is the brackets. It's so overused as far as programming/dev companies are concerned.

Also, what's up with the font work? It feels like you put all creative juice in the symbol and didn't have any left for the word mark ;) You really need to spend much more time looking for a cool font that matches the symbol. And a complimenting one for the subtext.

Keep it up!

Thank you for your feedback! Setting it upright could really make it different and I should've played with it more. I thought the brackets inside it will make it more clever, but I'll try to avoid using that next time. The font was customer preferred and I don't really want that font to be honest. That's why I placed it on the description that that's what the customer wants. Once again, thank you for giving me such great critique!

Don't let a client's bad taste bar you from proposing a better logo! Make a second proposal where you've fixed what needed to fixed in the first version. And if the client still insist to have his crappy requirements in there (instead of trusting the pro that you are), at least you put up a fight ;)

Ohh I see. I'd actually considered changing it to what I think would match the logo but I thought that it's proper if I followed what the client requested.

I would trust my designer gut from now on. Thanks!
