this logo is not too formal ... I would try to delet the gradient of the source and think another symbol. I like the logos of Microsoft, look for references.

The gradient its not the best for the logo, solid colors are more functionally and formal

Logo - Awful. Too unwieldy. Typography - Awful. Use of gradients on the text - Shoddy. Do it on the text as a whole not on individuals letters or you will get the gradient light to dark on each object.

I like the G graphic mark. the gradients don't work though and the type is lacking in character. Ask yourself these questions:
How will it look on a fax?
How will it look on a 3rd generation black and white copy?
How will it look on a billboard in a rain storm?
How will it look embroidered on a shirt?
How will it look on a postage stamp?
These questions should get any logo off on the right foot.
