Hungarian Stop Market

Brief from client

Potential logo for a small market store

Client requested the Hungarian colors be incorporated into the logo somehow. I figured since the business had "stop" in the name, why not a traffic light? The flag colors are identical save for the yellow light.

Since it looks like a first attempt and first thought with the traffic light definitely AX the traffic light. Too clip arty looking. - Also if the emphasis is on stop the green needs to be a darker or the red lighter which is another reason to AX it.

Couldn't you go for a font that is more like a Hungarian style?

The font seems just a generic one you found.

Not sure if you need the black and then another light source around the light bulbs.

Perhaps, try executing this in all black first. Then adding color.

From the traffic light I would not know whether to stop or go. And as you mentioned about the colors - the light should be yellow, so you are forcing the design into the traffic light. AX.

I would bet on your 3rd to 5th attempt you are looking a lot better.

A traffic light doesn't say "Market" to me. You're getting hung up on a single word that's not really tied into the subject. You've also somehow managed to make the creepiest and most harrowing stop light I've ever seen. The gray scale gradient pin-lighting the stoplight in a black void is not very inviting.

Aliasii's critique is dead on.

Because there is "Stop" in the brand name doesn't me it should be limited to a stop sign or a stop lights. And what does it have to do with a super market ? (hint: squat)

If you don't feel confortable having to work the Hungarian flag colors in this logo, then don't and convince the client it's not for the best. And having "Hungarian" in the brand name doesn't mean you HAVE to incorporate the colors. It would be a bit expected and a good occasion to go beyond it.

And what about the Saguaro logo you were working one lately? It looked promising, I'd love to see a more advanced version ;)

Adding the Hungarian colors will just make Americans think about Italian food anyways, we all know this. Nobody would make the connection without the word "Hungary" in the name.

Hungarian graphic design is really cool, and I wish more people would embrace it.

Instead of forcing green, red, and white into your logo, do some research on the art style that comes out of Hungary. There is a ton of inspiration out there.
