Kilmarnock Football Club

Brief from client

The logo is designed to reflect the crests used on Kilmarnock shirts in the early 20th century. It contains a 1950-60's style football as the crests shield and a blessing hand as the helm.

The current logo is regarded by many fans as too "cartoon-like." It was designed in the early 90's after the Lord Lyon prohibited the club from using the Boyd family crest that they had been using as their logo since the 1960's.

The crest has a bold outline so that it can be used in a monochromatic form. The design closely mirrors crests used in the 1870's and 1950's but has some more contemporary finishing details.

The font used is "Harabara," selected to complement the rounded finish to the crest. If the logo was to be used on shirts or other club merchandise, it would be likely that the type would be omitted, leaving the plain crest.

I think the weakest point of the logo so far is the font. If you have and other suggestions for that or any other part of the crest then let me know in the comments.

I designed this logo. In the image below, (1) is our current logo and (2) is the crest that we are no longer allowed to use because of Scottish heraldry rules.

No.

If you take a look at the emblems of other Scottish clubs you'll see that there's a pattern: most of them are circular.

Sometimes it's a good idea to keep the trends in your design because that gives your logo an identity (i.e. "this looks like a soccer logo").

Put the hand in front of the ball. Put "CONFIDEMUS" and "KILMARNOCK F.C." around the ball on a blue background. Include the year the club was founded. That's what you see in most European soccer clubs emblems.

After checking ur logo a few times i think the problem is trying to picture this one in the football game shirt....since you cant use heraldic symbols now why dont you try a badge...like celtic or inter or bayern munchen ??...i put something together to try and give you an idea...hope it helps.

Just poking a little fun.. : ). I do think you are on to something with the hand over the ball instead of "sprouting" out of the top. Good direction.

That's exactly how you design a football club logo. Now, in some countries you add a star only when you get a championship.

What I did was to add the year the club was founded and used a different font (not a modern looking one).

The hand emerging from the top of the ball is an integral historical part of the design. I note the point that most SPL logos are round, but ours never has been.

Attached are versions of our crest that appeared in 1879 (l) and 1951 (r)

I will upload a "roundel" version of the logo I have also made as a version 2.
