I did say it was a derivative of the original logo. It is also a opensource clipart. I am sure graphic designers use pictures from iStock Photos and other websites, at a fee of course, to do work for their clients. Nothing is wrong with that.

Open source or not, you should never EVER use a graphic element, or a derivative of, that you did not create 100% yourself.
Doing so is just flat out lazy. Cliparts, paid or free, have no place in a professionally made logo.
You are 101% right. I agree. It does encourage laziness and fast cash. I feel the same way about using photos on istockphotos and fonts as well.
I used it as a placeholder for the concept of my logo which was a dum idea I must say. Anyway that is behind me now.
