How many times we have seen cross over hammers, axes , hockey sticks, shovels, bones under a skull and etc.? Too many times for sure. It is greatly over used and over done , like light bulbs. In your first version , at least, there was a piece of lumber which was a good thing. This one doesn't tell me visually without reading " lumber works " that it has a specific trade/craft.Also, I see a dog face out of the two crossed axes, as well. Sorry, but a symbol doesn't work for me and has a scary impact, too. If there were blood dripping from each blade - that could have been a nice idea for a horror movie poster. I do like how you arched " Schmitt ". I think that that arched part should be your new starting point to make a fresh concept out of this and it will work perfectly if you will find a way to create a symbol somewhere out of a negative space(s) between letters in " Schmitt ". I like two negative spaces in " S " that could become axes heads, I like two spaces in " H ", I like two " TT " at the end, as well. Also, this person Joseph Schmitt is of a German decent - so, that could be another thought to create some clever solution, isn't ? I would like to see color version, too. Good luck!
On a second look - try to place your symbol inside that round lumber chunk from a first version with some depth and shadows, find a source of light. Use two different grain of wood ( finished and unfinished) - maybe maple or oak?
Bopota has a point about the hipstery kind of logos being seen everywhere.
That being said, I like hipstery logos =)
I think this one would work better if "Joseph" had the same arch warp effect than "Schmitt". Also try it in all caps.
It won't be a ground-breaking logo, by any measure. Very trendy, too much, maybe, and kinda ran-off-the-mill. But keep exploring this type of logo and find ways to make them more personal and unique.
Bonne chance, mec!
I like it as well, even if it might be a little expected. It actually reminds me more of logos in cartoons than logos you see in the real world.
It is already looking much better. Now you just need to add some personal pizzazz!
Also, pretty much always follow Shawali's advice. That smoking skull has a very high percentage chance of being right on the money.
