Note to Selph

Brief from client

Logo for book review blog. A script font and the color purple were requested.

I tried to make the notes look like book pages. I would really like opinions on the "book reviews" line. Also, the lady's last name is Selph, hence the play on words.

I like the script and I like the purple. At first glance, the book pages don't show up very well. I think the color might be a bit too light. I am not sure I am making the leap between note pages and book pages. I am also not fond of how they aren't centered. It just feels lopsided. Was there a reason to choose all lowercase? Overall I like this, but I would be interested in seeing what other ideas you had.

This is confusing to me. It looks like an open book, but just one side of an open book. Does that mean the book has been finished being read?
It is to one side of the logo as well, so I am going with it is a finished book.
I think this needs refining, but it is a good start.

Book reviews should be a stronger element! Make it stand out more.

I like the purple, but the pages need something to make them stand out more.

This is certainly better than what was on the site. I admit it, I really only went there to look because I am trying to get book reviews done. While the preferred genres didn't quite match up, the latest book review was for a book called 'Manwhore'... so maybe there is hope after all!

Considering what actually serves as the logo of this blog, this is a major leap forward.

But you are far from being done yet.

First off, the symbol. Scrap it and make a new one. As Waffles aptly pointed out, it's confusing. But it's also barely visible in that light beige shade. The flipping page thingy is gooched. It doesn't come naturally along the curve of the page. You need to spend more time on that.

Now, about that script font. It's not a bad choice, but where are the ligatures?! You can't have a beautiful hand scripted type like this without properly linking the characters. I guess you probably got this one for free and it doesn't come with ligatures. It means you're going to have to make them yourself. It's a pretty good exercise, though. It's the kind of details that makes the difference between an ok-ish and a good one.

Good luck!
