Personal Branding
This logo was designed for my personal branding, My initials are DR. I mocked them up on square business cards as this was the whole look i want to achieve throughout the brand identity.
I am a bit confused as to exactly which letters you are combining. It could read DR which I think is what you are going for.
One may also see DQ or maybe even DB.
Suggestion, if it is indeed DR - I would work with the negative space on the top to help create more of the R top look. Also, you might try playing with the weight of the rounded D stroke, to allow the R to really come out of the D without losing the D altogether.
I believe you can do it with some tweaking.
Is grey the color choice?
Lastly, eliminating the triangle shapes extruding on the sides may help for a cleaner look, especially once you refine it.
The letters in this monogram are not really important here. It's not meant to be read but to be remembered.
It's like our own hand scripted signatures. More often than not, it's unreadable but it still looks like something and his recognizable on checks, ID, contracts, etc...
Indeed, but like signatures, it needs to have an unique "shape" to be remembered, something that becomes recognizable without doubt. In the thought of signatures, although every one is different not all of them are easy to remember. Personally I don't think that this monogram has enough strength to work by itself, it missleads the public. Following the idea of unreadable / signature monogram it could become better and less generic with some more work in it. But that's just my opinion...
I agree 100%. I was merely mentioning that critiques about it being not properly readable are irrelevant in the case of a monogram.
I did not give my feedback on the logo itself. I too think it needs to be worked further, especially the leg of barring the D.
But so far, this is definitely going in the right direction.
PS: the logo inserted inside mockups doesn't really help us to give you a proper feedback. What does though, is to have it on a clear background with some space around it.
I had no trouble at all recognizing DR, it was never even a question in my mind. If it was DQ there would have been a descender, not a leg. I like the triangles at the hips, they are a nice subtle accent that adds distinction. They work well in the square frame of your mockup also.

This looks interesting. Pro tip: giving it more wiggle room would make it look better and easier for us to give you a feedback ;)

I like it but I also have some issues figuring out what letters it represents. I hope you post a new and improved version! Keep working

This is what this monogram is. A signature.
