Seymour

Brief from client

The brief was to re brand the old pub signage with something fresh keeping the traditional feel. The pub is named after a tower thats out at sea which can be seen from the pub.

Some of you will remember that i posted this about a year ago as thats when i originally did the job, unfortunately nothing happened with it as the owners decided they didnt have enough money to get it done.. The pub has now been taken over by someone else and he loved the designs i originally did and only asked for a few tweaks here and there.
So i thought i would post the final outcome.. the signage hasnt been made yet but will be getting done soon! I no your are supposed to upload logos that are not signed off so that you can get feedback and advise on how to make it better but i thought id share this anyway and if anyone does have any suggestions i will definitely take them on board. Any comments are welcome

I love it Matt. Great to see the progression work and all the usage examples.

My only issue with it is the bricks on the front round wall. They - in my opinion look like artifacts/collateral from a photoshop cutout filter that don't quite sit right. I'd go for a bit more uniformity in terms of colour and have them randomly scattered in sequenced locations around the wall just to give that rounded impression - if that makes sense. You and others may disagree, and you may have already wrestled with the 'issue' but that's what i'd do.

Ultimately though, as I said 'I like it a lot' Nice one dude =)

Thanks Jon! I hadn't ever had a problem with the bricks on the rounded wall but now you have said it, i understand what you mean! ill definitely have a look at editing this to see if i can improve it. Ultimately i picked those bricks out specifically because they are a different colour and had a bit of character to help split up the solid brown area.

I dig it! It's a pretty unique logo for a pub. The only concern I would have is with printing. Say they want to do uniforms or something, and they wanted a front left crest on a t-shirt. you would lose a bunch of the small details, and a screen printer would go crazy with that many colors. I work in apparel design, so things like that kind of jump out at me. :P

Seriously though, great logo.

printing/cutting this on heat transfer material would be easy. I have cut much much much smaller things before :) All you need is a brand new blade :D

Good, but there are a few things I noticed.

Don't separate "sports" and "restaurant" on different lines. I would also attempt to eliminate as many tiny bits of color as possible. Also, just a heads up, the white wall on the building gets lost when translated to B/W. A subtle border might help better distinguish it.

I didnt want to separate the words on 2 lines... in fact i had it all on one line but the company i work for are producing the signage and with all the text on one line it becomes too small for our machinery to cut the letters for the fascia signs so i had to put it on too. I actually like it better one two lines now as it helps to even out the weight of the illustration above the word Seymour

You can still have it on two lines. "Traditional Pub" and "Sports Restaurant." Otherwise it reads as though it said "Traditional Pub, Sports, Restaurant."

Its not a Sports restaurant..

Its meant to read "Traditional Pub, Sports, Restaurant"

Perhaps all the more reason to change the lines of text? It could be misinterpreted that way.

Haaa, I feel kinda bad but I'm not really digging this one!

Overall, I don't really get the traditional aspect. Signalist is a great font, but I don't think it gives the right feel for a traditional/vintage pub.

Now, my biggest beef is the symbol. There should be a law against picture tracing =) More seriously, you'll always wind up with vector shapes you don't really control, as opposed to something you made from scratch. So I'm not really against the symbol itself, just the way you made it.

I know you're a really good designer, so I shouldn't feel too bad giving you a couple of red thumbs =) I still remember that awesome landscape company you did a few months ago!

Keep it up!

Hahaha thanks for the comments Charlie!

A lot of pubs over here have like a painting on there signage of something to do with the name of the pub.

This is why i went for the traced picture look so i could make it look like a painting.. i used the Signalist font with a few edits as i think its a font that looks like its been painted with a brush to help tie in with the image. I also think it looks a little old fashioned too but that might be my personal preference.

I completely get what your saying though.. I guess this is more of a illustration with some nice text rather than a logo.. I definitely wouldn't do this type of thing for anything else.. I just thought it was appropriate for this job :)
