The Castle Coffee House

Brief from client
This is a project I have done using a fake brief online. It is for a coffee house called 'The Castle'. Which is a fancy coffee shop in London (UK)
When sketching I loved the idea of merging the castle elements with the mug to create this logo. I feel that it does its job of promoting a coffee shop that is rather fancy.
Any feedback would be great!

This is a pretty good start. The tower/cup is a really cool idea.
Now you need to tweak and simplify.
You can start by removing the flag pole. The tower/cup delivers the idea pretty well on its own. No need of superfluous bits and bobs. You might to tweak the handle some more. Same for the reflection on the left.
I would also revise the symbol/word mark size ratio. Or at least think of several possible compositions.
I'm not a fan of the font. It's a bit stale. For a londonian coffee house, I would expect something with a bit more class and grit.
You got yourself of potential really cool logo. Keep working on it!
Here is the second version of the logo, I have changed the font to a Serif font for the name of the business, as I feel this is more formal and fits the london scene more. I have refined the handle and the shadow but do you think it needs more?

Definitely a step in the right direction.
It still needs some work though. As Joy aptly pointed out, you got that smidge in the top right corner.
The main font works pretty well, it nails that formal feel you aimed for. Not a fan of the subtext thought. I personally tend to never put caps for I feel it can throw the composition off balance. It's either full lower case or all caps.
Didn't you think about having some fashion of coat of arms in there? For a London-based coffee house named the Castle, I would go crazy on that kind of stuff. But, if you really want a simple, minimalist logo, your idea is already bang on =) Check out Joe White's work, he's the master of intricate super classy logos.

I checked out Joe Whites work, its amazing! Its really inspired me to more projects like this. I have made the changes, the steam coming from the cup needs a lot of refinement but this is where im at, I am really happy with how its coming along.

This new version is another step in the right direction. Now that you added these fumes, which you need to fine tune, they're a bit stiff, maybe you could remove the handle. It makes the whole thing not really centered.
The font of the subtext works. I would just reduce it in size, it's still a bit too prominent.
keep it up, you're gonna end up with a great logo!

Also, I would remove the reflection thing altogether, for simplicity's sake.
I would keep the reflection. It breaks up what would otherwise be a large black shape, and gives it a bit of character.
In that case, it should be fine tuned properly.
Does anyone else miss the flag? I miss the flag.
