Brief from client
Hi guys.
I've been working in my spare time on this idea for a mock magazine about folk/americana music, which I'm a big fan of.
Of course, a hand lettering logo is the obvious way to go. After a few dozen sketches, here's what I came up with.
Tell me what you guys think.

Here are a few sketches.
Wow, you are really good at typography and creating fonts!
Thanks! Though I'm nowhere near wear I'd like to be. Hand lettering is great but requires hours and hours of practice and I still have a long way to go.
Lettering for "Folkist" is great! Seems like "the" is a little rougher around the edges compared to how clean the other is?? I immediately mentally moved "the" up above the F ( I see you tried that in one of your sketches) as it feels like kind of hanging out there all alone. Maybe there is a better placing for it to keep balance.
Loooove that letter "k" =)
I agree, the lettering is very good, but the balance is off. I could see enlarging 'the' both size and weight, and placing it up to the left with a shorter swash on the 't' to balance things out. Not sure about the arrow, haven't made up my mind about it.
I'd like to see a thinner version for this. I'd say your design calls for it, since combining thicker logotype with thin elements is a huge contrast. Maybe even try it the other way around?
Great work on font, as always. And like others said, the "The" needs a better home than straggling on the side like that.
i think i liked "the" better on top of the letter "F"
apart of that i totally dig it!
i gotta work on that kind of stuff now that i got my graphics tablet :D
Thanks!
What tablet did get in the end?
i got the huion 1060 pro + (i only wanted the h610 pro but i got the other one as a gift :D)
Cool! Les Huion sont vraiment beaucoups moins chères que les Wacom. Je me laisserais bien tenter par la GT220 =)
