Wild Kea Creative

Brief from client

A NZ web and brochure design company

I have created a logo using a handrawn logo which has been scanned and vectorised. I took the colour pallete from an image of a Kea to try and show all of the beautiful colours.
The beak is a very prominent feature so it was important to make sure it was the correct shape.

I think you have a good start, but I am not wild about the font. The bird looks graceful and the font looks clunky and like something out of the 50s. I am not certain the colors on the Kea are very successful. When you reduce the image to use on business cards, brochures, etc, the colors are not going to be that distinguishable. The red might but the blue and green are too similar. The yellow around the eye is almost lost at this size, it will be totally gone when you shrink it down. I also have issue with creative just stuck down there. Not certain if I would letter space it, or just what. All negative aside, I do like the bird.

I actually disagree with the above comment.

The font looks interesting and has a period feel to it, while I actually hate that bird. The colors don't blend that well with the color of the font, and the style of it almost looks like clipart. There are ton of things globally wrong with the bird as well, starting with how thin some of the lines get. Those thin lines won't show up when this logo is smaller, and it makes it look like there wasn't much diction when this bird was being created.

Yeah I agree, the bird needs work - the thin and thick lines give me anxiety since they won't do well at smaller sizes. Also there's too many colors - maybe simplify a bit?
