DAA! Dumplings

Brief from client

Russian dumplings made by hand in small batches, using organic and locally-sourced ingredients. DAA! Dumplings offers traditional and contemporary Russian dumpling recipes, that include vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.

Thanks again everyone... Here's another stab at it, with a bit more of a "fun" factor to it as well. Thoughts?

Much better! The font on the first version was really cool but this one works too.

Great to hear, thank you very much for your feedback! Seems like most people dig a more simplified version also, I think we're going to roll with this one.

I liked your original font- but this one works better with the style.
I have to ask though- what does the pig nose have to do with it (I'm not familiar with dumplings!) and is the pig eating the dill???

Thank you Joy! The font was a tough one to call, but you're right ultimately it came down to fitting the style, which is more playful and fun (what we wanted to project). We wanted to create a logo that was not literal, but use a fun and unique mascot instead. The pig is holding the dill in his mouth. Dill is used a lot in Russian cuisine. Pig is also used a lot in Russian cuisine.

I agree, I think it has a real cute factor, but I don't get the pig dumpling connection. Just curious as to why you chose a pig snout for a dumpling logo?

raphaelnieto's picture

Hey Cooperads, thank you too! I think personally many great logos don't necessarily have anything to do with what the product or service is about, but instead go the route of portraying something memorable that conveys a certain emotion. Pigs are fun, cute, and love to eat a lot! Dill on the other hand makes more "sense", as it's used a great deal in Russian cuisine. So it's basically a cute animal that loves to eat a lot Russian cuisine : )

Also please check out my thoughts from my response to Joy above.

my first thoughts are: is this a jellyfish racing along or a pig eating a piece of grass? And what do either of these have to do with dumplings?

Sorry, I'm just confused. It's not bad imagery, but I don't see the connection. and the typography spacing seems off.

raphaelnieto's picture

No need to be sorry, I welcome all feedback! Could you be a bit more specific please with the typography spacing issue you see please? I'm using the original spacing from Google's Chewy font.

the spacing is too close on some characters, particularly the N and G near the end of word- too close together. Also, over all, the placement of the words related to the symbol seems off. may need to be bigger, or moved around somehow.

I have the answer everyone is looking for!

This is a logo with a pig snout for a dumpling company because...

It is stupid cute. Like, the cutest thing ever. Really, really, cute.

Not every logo needs to make sense to be successful, what they need to be is memorable. This is memorable and a half.

So if your question is 'Why?' the answer is - because it is amazing and go with it.

(Also, at least some of the dumplings are probably made with pork)

I love it.
