Brief from client
We sell basalt columns used as features columns in landscaping. We will be targetting architects and consumers building high projects with our marketing. The columns are naturally formed. Each is a unique sculptural piece.

Simple and effective.
Thought not really groundbreaking, this totally works.
Good job.
Thanks!
Ok, the idea is not bad, but you have lots of small detail in the symbol which will be lost in small print. I suppose the shape of symbol represents Australia, which also may be a quite common approach. ... don't know what basalt columns are, maybe you should have worked on making it more clear to ordinary people. (no time to google it now)
Yes, I know about small gap between polygons. Well, as I see it, the logo should not exactly picture what it is all about. But I respect everyone's opinions. Thanks for the comment!
Not a bad execution, basalt columns are exactly that, basalt columns which normally form in hexagonal (but sometimes pentagonal or heptagonal) structure, interconnected as they appear in the logo.
I would have suggested the reason you did not win was because as they are targeting architects, they would be looking for a brand with more refined detail in the symbol element (i.e. more detail but with less components) and you also forgot tasmania which may have pissed someone off.
That being said, i googled the winning design and it was hideous, so don't beat yourself up.
Hm, Tasmania! Yes, one polygon should've been enough! :)
And I agree now that it had to be more architectural. Well, about winning design - that's why I don't like speculative work/logos. But it's hard to get real clients. Thanks for comment!

Thanks for your comments and time, really! Once, I agree with everything except that logo in general should represent exactly the business behind it. That's my opinion (well, not just mine)!
I don't know what these columns are but it looks like you are selling honey in Australia to me.
