Ingwe Wildlife Art

Brief from client

A Taxidermy company situated in Namibia - Africa, with the word "Ingwe" - a word meaning leopard in Zulu, they wanted something sketched for a more African feel to the logo.

Try and work on the letters and colour. Moreso, toggle the Ingwe around the leopard eyes abit. just feel free with it. Goodluck

paths on the letters must go and the artwork must be simpler. This is almost not a logo. A logo is a minimal thing that keeps his value form and detalils both at small or big scale, does not apply here. Change the subtext in something readable and simple, align to the main text. The symbol must be smaller in my opinion to align easy with the text.

I'm sorry to agree with the negative comments, because it looks like you really did try here, but I just don't think any of this works.

The cheetah eye is a nice sketch, but a.) pencil sketches and logos just don't work well together and b.) it looks like a rough sketch, not really a finished drawing.

The colors you're using here say 'cheeta' to me, but they don't really say Africa- could you try to incorporate the country's national colors into this logo?

The font also needs to be changed. Both the pattern on the main font, the subtext, and the actual font you chose for the main text. I can't pin point what it is, but it just doesn't really work. It looks like the main text is slightly tilted too- if you did that on purpose I guess I don't understand why.

If it were me, I'd start fresh. Google Namibia or something to get ideas- keep it simple, just two or three colors, no sketches, no photoshop stuff, no gradients, just clean and simple. Play around with it- it's such a fun concept to work with!! And please upload the new one when/if you have one! Good luck!

I don't mind the sketch aspect that much, but I would increase the detail on the eye, especially with specular highlights and shadow to make it more realistic. The text (as mentioned) doesn't stand out and/or doesn't blend with the feel of the sketch. If you plan to stay with the animal sketch idea, why not create your own unique text

It's not a good idea to put animal print on type. Type needs to be easily readable, and an animals markings are usually there to make it harder to see, to help it blend in with it's surroundings and break up it's shape to prey/predators. This makes it really hard to read the type since it all blends together into a mess. Also, the drawing idea is good, but needs to be executed better or tossed. I left a bit of inspiration that might help if you decided to go a different direction, per above on type, it needs to change as well.

Personally, I think here is way too much detail. Keep your typeface clean without spots. - Then another thing... Is the word Ingwe a requirement? Because Zulu are more likely to stay in South Africa... not Namibia. Then try to do your Leopard in a Vector. - I did a cheetah once (attached). You must also be careful not to copy the Africat Logo (they have half a cheetah face)... see at http://www.africat.org/

If they asked you to reproduce the logo as a foil for a folder, or as a vinyl for a window you would be in a spot of bother (no pun intended). A logo MUST be able to work in a solid single colour. I hear arguments that it will only appear on websites etc, but if a logo has been designed properly it would reproduce as a black logo in solid colour. I would use a lovely signature for the word 'Ingwe', because taxidermy is an art and it is done by hand. I like the feel of the one attached, although I would make it more legible. Sorry not to be more positive — I just think that you need to simplify things a lot. You are clearly talented, as the drawing is very nice.

The eye is an incredible concept and is a great idea for a logo. Some people believe it's the window to the soul.

If the cat eye was more of an icon and less of a photo I think it would stand of it's own.

Try a off the wall approach on color. Keep it simple though.
