Monks Doner & Ales

Brief from client

The restaurant is a Mediterranean deli that features gyros, döner kebab, wraps and sandwiches served with hummus and other Mediterranean influenced dips and sides. The restaurant features a tap room with 12 craft beers that rotate and over 250 bottled and canned beers that can be consumed on premise or can be mixed-and-matched in 6-packs. The atmosphere is laid back and has décor featuring monks, monasteries, bamboo and beer signs. It is not a true bar as it closes at 9 pm most days.

Please provide feedback on the CONCEPT only. We will hire a graphic designer to complete the logo once a concept is defined.

Thank you for your feedback!

Hire the designer first. The concept is wholly flawed. You have way too much going on here...ying and yang in a Mediterranean deli? A flaming strawberry and a glass of beer...way too much.

Hire a designer, have that person help you with your brief then turn him or her loose. You will get a much better product in the end, one that will convey a message and encourage people to try your food.

I wholeheartedly agree with Coop.

Don't work out a concept on your own and ask for a designer to execute it. For a designer, this is the worst type of job, as the major part of what makes logo design cool is taken away from them.

And as for the concept, yours is really nothing to get crazy about... It's very basic and not really imaginative nor creative. Plus, repeating the same idea in every word is just redundant, on top of overwhelming and cluttering the whole thing.

I'm not really sure what a ying-yang symbol has to do with döners and beer.

My advice: hire a good designer and let them do the whole creative part. From conceptualisation to execution. Trust them, it's their job. Don't tie their hands by imposing a half-assed concept. You can tell them what you envision for your logo but he or she is the pro. And being a pro means that they will get you what you need rather than what you want.

I'm just going to go ahead and agree with the top two.

There is nothing worse than having a client who wants to do our job for us. That's why we are here, to handle your brand identity and make you look amazing.

^ Look at the work of the designers that work for this firm. Their entire job is brand identity and web development and design. Everything they do is near flawless, and that is because they were designers who were allowed to do their job and make professional suggestions.

Trust them.
