Brief from client
This is an attempt at my first personal logo to establish myself as a professional designer
Im a senior in college and I am working on this logo but I am having trouble with a few things. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
I'm not going to rate this one, as of yet... It is not done by any means - work in progress. Things that bugs me is : 1. why not keep the same font style for your symbol as is in your text? 2. By separating top of the " P " and then adding a rusty part it creates a feeling of a crescent or a banana curved behind an upper bar of " L ". I read L before anything else and that is not in order. Some serious thinking must take place in order to finish this one properly.
I will admit it, I don't really get it. There is a lot of work needed in this logo, the Typography being right aligned looks incorrect as it is now, for example.
You may have seen me post this before, but I am posting it again.
You will get my list of things to do. For first logos especially.
1. Research. - Look at logos. A bunch of Logos. Then some more logos. (Charlie has a great list of sites: www.logopond.comwww.dribbble.comwww.pinterest.com)
2. Brainstorm - Take your name, as well as some of your favourite things. Branch off from them, even if it doesn't make sense. Spend a good 30 minutes.
3. Pair the words, or pick words you really like. It doesn't need to make the best sense, or be from the same tree. If you have Dinosaur + cowboy - hey go for it.
4. Sketch some ideas. I would say about 6 of the pairs.
5. Pick the three that are working the best. Spend time on them. Sketch and refine.
6. Refine more.
7. Refine more more.
8. Turn on your computer.
9. Take the best of each of those 3 ideas and scan them in.
10. Bring us those 3 ideas.
11. We will help you from there. :)
But no computer work until see see some sketches! ^-^
... One day someone is actually going to listen and bring us sketches.
I have tons of sketches for this one believe it or not but none of them I feel are working. It doesn't help that I'm not the best illustrator either but I'll go back at this again. Thanks for the advice though really helps.

I see the same thing in a previous logo (Esteban Lakatos).
I read first L and secondly not see P, it is more like the tail of an animal.

One pro tip: try to stay from the super bland initials. Almost every single designer logo uploaded here revolve around them.
And if you feel that none of your sketches work, it means you haven't sketched enough =)
Keep it up!
Waffles, please, send me your email information - I have art work that I have done for Canucks. Thank you. O'Canada!
ok so i saw the P and L, but it doesn't look great that way....the colors don't go together, and the text underneath the P L is way too small
