Voyons Nous

Brief from client

Revamped our logo, to make it more attractive and elegant. Sacrebleu!

Edit from me : get rid of that ubiquitous Lobster font!! =)

Hey fellas.

Here's a logo I revamped for a French dating web site named Voyons Nous, which means something like "let's meet".

This is an ongoing project and here's my favorite version so far. It will need a bit more fine tuning of course, especially the tip of the pin and the ligature before each S.

The font used is La Portenia de la Recoleta, a stunning cursive font from the great Argentinian foundry Sudtipos.

Tell me what you guys think.

And here's the original logo for comparison (which I didn't make)

And here's another version my client wanted to submit to you eye sharped critics.

As most of you would have noticed, I used Mission Script from Lost Type.

Great font also but I think it suffers from the same syndrome that Lobster does. It's a great free font and you kind of see it everywhere. It is also not as elegant as La Portenia. But also a bit easier to read.

The pin is also very slightly different.

But anyhoo, tell me what you guys think.

PS : Mission Script was designed by the über talented James T. Edmondson http://jamestedmondson.com/

I prefer this version is better and I prefer this font than the other. Good job Shawali.

I wouldn't usually do this with any font ever, but with Mission, you can actually get away with stretching it out wider so the lettering is more square than rectangular...

Then the only tiny thing which would make me happy, is just to see the bottom of the pin with an even boarder. Instead of making both points meet, have the inside point up a bit. (If that makes any sense?)

Yes it does. I think =)

The bottom of the pin thing is part of the fine tuning I planning to do.

Thanks, Jim!

Readability prevails here and the red is awsome, i would keep that, is much better as color and symbol than the first one. And I like the subliminal heart in the shadow, nice touch.

Hmm... While I do like the font and think it's quite pretty, I just find it a little troublesome in terms of legibility. Cursive fonts are quite tricky, so I commend you for trying to stick with Mission script.... But um.. I just think you can do better here.

Your symbol is probably what bothers me the most. Though it is indeed well designed, I can't get the picture of google maps out of my head! I would ask them if they are 100% sure that they have no other choice but to stick with that logo, because at the moment it doesn't give the correct message of dating - think of the little traveling bubbles in maps. Perhaps if it was a heart shape like you had it in the shadow it would be more unique? Overall there are a plethora of things that can be used in its place, I don't think it would hurt to suggest a new symbol since you're already working on a new brand so to speak.

Keep at it!

Changing the symbol is out of the question. The site has been up for the last 6 months. And I really like the idea of the pin.

The concept of this dating website is that you create a "rendez vous", like a concert, a danse lesson or whatever, and you are submitted with profies that match yours.

So the pin gives that idea of meeting somewhere, in a urban environment, in this case Paris.

And the heart shaped shadow is awesome, I wish I had made the first version of the logo and had this idea =)

So it's not a rebranding, just a revamping.

Thanks for your comment!

I like the idea alot, the simplicity is all there. Just a few things id do, try to match the boarder width of the icon to the width of the letters. I prefer this with the mission script font too, Might need to find a way to make the 2 s's look different. But other than that, I think this is pretty cool!

hmm im not too sure about this one! i dont like the font you've used with the symbol, the two dont match together very well.. i think i prefer the one with the mission script font! about the symbol... i really didnt no it was a pin untill you said.. can it be changed to look more like a regular pin or does it have to stay this shape? i really like the heart shaped shadow idea, that bit is great. Overall i still think you have some more fine tunning/edits to make!

Shawaliiiiii! Hiya! (And I'm sure you meant "Hey fellas AND ladies" up there, right Charlie!? Hehe....)

I love the symbol and what you did to it- it looks like a nice little piece of candy or something and I think it's swell. The font on the first version that you uploaded (up there at the top) I wasn't crazy about- but the last one you uploaded I like a lot better. I think you've done a might fine job revamping it!

Thanks guys and girl for your comments.

You won, the client is probably going to pick the mission script version. It won't kill me but I really dig La Portenia. But he received the same comments about the first version not being as readable as the second one.

I'll post the final version.

Merci les loulous!

Nice one but I think a little change in typography will make it more cool.
