17000 ft

Brief from client

Logo for a Not-for-Profit working to enhance education in the remote schools in the high mountains of the Himalayas. The name and logo should showcase remoteness and altitude without actually showing mountains. There was no restriction on colors as most use will be on the net

The Name:
The name 17000 ft has been derived from the fact that we crossed this height in Ladakh on foot to reach one of our beneficiary schools. It is registered as a Foundation under sec 25(a) of the Indian Companies Act and is a Limited Company.

Design:
The text is with rough edges signifying the rugged terrain in which the organization works and the when placed on top of the two horizontal line, stability is achieved. The word "FOUNDATION" in smooth text helps aggravate stability and provides balance.
The pebble stack is the way rarely used paths are marked to show the way to trekkers in the remote mountains of Ladakh and symbolizes our attempt to show the way while looking for less-travelled paths to proceed.
Color:
The deep maroon was used to portray Buddhism which is the prdominant religion of these altitudes

Not sure showing small stones portrays the feeling of remoteness you wanted. Think you need play around with the image type balance to achieve this.

It's unfortunate to use an image as part of a logo. Try to use vectors only.

This is so bad that it makes me sad.

Vectors. Use Illustrator!
Its easy to do something similar in illustrator and with a better effect.
I like that you can bullshit well with the meaning. Just make it look like something lol

Type, rough edges... come on, it's papyrus, which is not a good choice for logos.
The strokes will be lost once you scale this down, so loose them. You're foundation, needs better foundation. Use a slab serif, or better yet use a sans serif. Even Impact would be a better choice than a serif typeface.
If you're going to write 17000, it should read 17,000

Never use Papyruuuuuuuuuus!!! There are hundreds of other fonts with rough edges, go find one!! And maybe instead of using the photo of rocks, use Illustrator to create some stacked rocks instead? Using photos in logos can make many printing problems down the road.

Those rocks look like they're about a foot tall, max...definitely not 17,000 ft...

Why not have an open book face down so that the spine makes a peak? You could even have a pencil nib forming a mountain peak. There is so much to inspire you with the subject matter. Even if it is for use on the net, it should still work in a single colour — just in case. Papyrus isn't a great choice for any graphic design work in my opinion. I wish I could be a bit more positive, but I can't see how to make it work.
