Brief from client

Hi,

I own a webshop and I'm selling the newest gadgets/electronic devices etc. This is a new logo that has been made for me by a designer based on my demands. I did like it but still have some doubts, I think it might be "too much" for a logo. I would appreciate it if you could share your thoughts. Thanks in advance,

Rusy

Hey there!

I'm not a specialist of intellectual property, but I think you might get into trouble for using Guizmo in your logo. Whoever owns the right to that character will not look kindly at some commercial entity using it for their own gain. I'm sure you don't mean any harm, but you might want to scrap this idea to avoid any legal issues.

Also, it just makes your brand look cheap. And more generally, using somebody else's creation, especially when it is very well known, is more than frown upon in this business. Or any business, for that matter.

And beyond these legal considerations, this logo isn't really working. The Gizmo symbol is way too detailed and illustrative and globally very complicated. There are way too many colours, shapes, especially with all these pointy edges. The wifi-like symbol looks like an afterthought. The font itself, as far as e-commerce is concerned, doesn't really inspire seriousness and trust.

I think you are totally right when you say this might a bit "too much" for a logo. My advice, start off clean and maybe let the designer propose something of his own, something which would look way more professional and engaging.

Keep us posted!

Thank you for taking the time to give some of your thoughts, I appreciate it! Besides the whole copyright issues, I think you made some really good points of which I did not think of myself. I think I got carried away with using Gizmo in my logo just because it also means "Gadget". I thought it might be a smart idea but did not think it might cause trouble in the long run. I also thought that it looked more like an illustration than a logo. Thank you again for your time and I try to post the final result as soon as it is finished. Have a great day!

It is very complicated and has too many colors, maybe you can tell the designer to simplify it and stick with only a few colors because if you showed this to someone he probably not going to remember it easily.

In brief, It should be:

-Simpler.
-More memorable.
-Have fewer colors.
-And maybe change the font.
