Different background:

That one hell of a good logo, if you ask me.

My concern though is that I don't get the nightlife thing our of this.

Since it's an app, I'd like to see how it behaves within the constraints of an smartphone app button.

Lol at first I got the impression that it was a SIMS game of some sort because of the colors. I also don't see a nightlife "vibe" and it could be because of the warm colors you're using. More purples, more blues, and less orange, pink, and greens would probably be your best bet IF you want it to look more "nightish".

Overall the logo looks awesome. Still though you're kinda cheating with a gradient background (try it on a flat white bg) but nonetheless it is a very strong piece :D The type is wonderful!

well, the whole app will be on black, so i wanted the logo to pop a bit by being colorful. that said, i will try it out with darker colors and see what come out.

Not a big fan of that kind of 3D but it looks nice. You could try as other people said to put some streetlights to make it look more nocturnal.. Even an overhanging moon maybe.
