Brief from client 

Client wanted and American Flag centric logo, with a classic look that could work across various platforms and substrates.

This one is a completely different look keeping an americana theme

i really like this concept but i definately agree that the font needs changing. I think all in caps would suit the style better. i would also make the outside border i tad thinner - make it the same thickness as the blue stroke above and below the text

I agree with JMG3 about the stars. The font from your first version might look good here.

Agree with many of the previous comments. Don't discount the stars, but rather give them more substance. When I first saw this I was reminded of a TV production logo. Note the stars.
