Delichon

Brief from client

A new logo for a consulting firm working in the field of mobile telecommunication technologies.

Delichon is a small genus of passerine birds that belongs to the swallow family and contains three species named as house martins.

The symbol is a representation of a house martin's wing deconstructed on an isometric grid to create a mesh of equilateral triangles. It has been given a series of blends to create the feeling of a natural crystalline structure, or a carefully folded piece of paper. It represents the mathematics of nature or, conversely, the dataforms we rely upon in everyday modern life, just as we rely on complex technologies and data for communication without ever giving them a thought.

At first sight I would say this is nice and clear. However there are a couple of things disturbing me. I could say the symbol has nothing to do with consulting nor the bird nor telecommunication. It hasn't got anything to do with anything. You could say this is the abstract category but than I say there is no idea, no invention in this. Besides there is too much negative tension in the logo: there is no ballance at all. The symbol is on the top right side which pushes the ballance to the right and suggests that it wants to emphasise the letters "hon" which don't have a meaning. In case of an abstract symbol I'd expect something more symmetric that brings ballance to the whole thing.
