Essart Studio

Brief from client

I am creating my own logo.

Hey guys! A few years ago I used to give critiques here, now I'm asking for your critiques/tips/suggestions, please!
It's so hard when you try to create something for yourself.
So, I basically want my logo to be a badge (I love badges) and I made the 1st one to also look like a planet (I love universe), which somehow also gives a smile to the viewer. The 2nd one is just another badge.
What I don't like on both of them is: I don't know! Something doesn't fit.
I want to keep "Essart" as it looks (maybe just get rid of the "E-s line?), but the rest... What badge should I keep, what can I change/move around? Are they both lame?
Thank you!

The ribbon on the globe on the left doesn't seem to fit. Rather than being a globe it is a flat disk. The ribbon shouldn't dent in where it curves around. All in all, I like the one on the right a little better. I do think, however, the stars and the EST. 2020 are competing with each other and a bit distracting. The EST 2020 is going to get lost in smaller reproductions. I would be inclined to lose the EST 2020 and put the stars down below but perhaps only do three or play with the quantity. If you take the stars away from the top, you should be able to make the name a bit larger.

Ok, good point on the stars and est 2020. Someone told me the 2nd badge looks like it’s for beer. I disagreed, but now idk. What do you think about that?
I’m gonna play around and post another version.
Thank you for your comment!

I could see where it looks a bit like a beer coaster, but that's a bit of a stretch. I would touch this one up a bit, then set it aside and work it from an entirely different angle. Get three or four logos that you like, then mock them up in use, business card and collateral, then decide which logo is the best/most flexible/most legible.

Thank you so much! Will surely do as you suggested and see how it goes.

I like them both, the one on the right the most.

The Est 2020 is probably not a good idea. It is (or was) trendy to have that but unless your business was established some time ago it just highlights that you haven't been around long.

The stars are also a generic design thing that say nothing about your business.

Other than that, they're both nicely balanced badges.

Thank you, shanuea! You’re right!! I’ll get rid of EST and stars.

I can't help but think that only the nicely crafted wordmark on its own would look much simpler and work better as the default basic version of your logo.

These are the badge version if you will. There are not badly made but I think it's overall a bit complicated.

Left: "studio" doesn't perfectly match the curves around it and it looks like it was just put there as an afterthought.

Right: "studio" is much prominent and take the focus away from the wordmark.

I agree "est 2020" doesn't help you. It's also a bit too cliché. Every hipsterish logo has it and it's seriously getting old (no pun intended).

Thank you, Shawali! You’re always on point!
Indeed, est 2020 is a cliche. And as shanuea mentioned it will only mean that I’m a beginner.
Guys, you are amazing! I knew I could find precious critiques here!
Will post a new version soon!
