Freedom Whale Watch & Charters logo
Brief from client
This is for my mum and dad's business. About 99% of their business focuses on whale watching. The whale watching in their area sees the mother whales bringing their newborns into the bay to teach them the ways of life. So naturally they wanted a whale in their logo somewhere.

I designed this logo about 3 years ago now and I'd like to say first off that logo design is really not my strong point.
I presented my dad with a whole lot of whale ideas and he chose this cartoony one. I have used two, one smaller and one larger to represent the mother and calf.
It also had to be fairly robust as this logo had to be incorporated into the signage for the boat, brochures, hats and web use as well. (I must say that we have got a simplified version embroidered on hats and they look fantastic!)
Let me know what you think. I am really keen to further develop my logo designs and get this side of my skills up to scratch.
You can check out how this logo looks on their website at http://www.freedomwhalewatch.com.au
Thanks. :)

I think the symbol is simple but works. This is what people want to see. The typefaces are too decorative, they take the attention away from the attraction. I suggest a much simpler font.
Logo works on the website just fine but, as botw said it would be better to explore some more typographical choices. I would suggest you try some friendly and warm thick rounded type. You can try with a free font from here: http://www.dafont.com/hiruko.font
Thanks for your advice. I will definitely try out that font and see what I can come up with. :)
I was sort of going for a smooth flowing font to represent being 'free' but I'm probably trying to jam too much meaning into the logo...?
Whales are a good graphic mark, do not use typography that will distract viewer from them, use typography to add to the 'mood board' of the whole concept (happy, friendly, warm).
