His and Her's Beauty Bar

Brief from client

This client gave me the go ahead to use my own innovation, and to make it pretty. It's a his and her's beauty bar that does hair, nails, and makeup. (She told me she changed the name of the company, but the theme will remain the same on the new logo).

I am a graphic design student and want to get some input as this will be my third logo created for a client. I wanted a modern feel. I wanted it to seem pretty, but unisex at the same time.

Your idea of wanting it modern, pretty and unisex at the same time is a good direction, however I feel you have failed in the execution. The font/symbol is more 60's the modern. I understand what you were trying with the different fills in the H's, male/female, yin/yang kind of thing, but here it it interferes with readability of an already overly complicated shape. The font for His & Hers (Skia?) is also a bit dated. Looks like you have stretched BAR, this is never really a good idea, when you stretch or condense a font it changes the balance of the proportions, the thicks and thins. 99% of the time it looks awkward. A good rule is to ry to limit your fonts to two types, and then have enough variation that they compliment each other and not look like you tried to match them and missed. Black and gold are a classic choice for this type of business, pay attention to how you use them, for example the thin font in gold is unreadable at a small size (see your post's thumbnail)

I'd say you need to do a like more research to find a more modern contemporary approach.

Thank you for the feedback. I can definitely see how the font looks more 60's than modern and how my typeface can be a little uneasy on the eye. I'm going to go make some modifications.

I really like your idea, but this logo is too busy. Try gathering some art reference base on your idea and go from there. I agree with fredrg, try sticking with 1 or 2 font. Sometime less is more :)

Hope this help

Thank you. I think one of my weaknesses is not knowing when to stop. I'm going to work on that.
