So I did a really quick mockup of how this logo could be better
Obviously, this is for a class, and you need to come up with your own solution, and not copy this one. I wouldn't recommend copying this anyways, as this is not a fully fledged draft of your logo.
However, I wanted to show you that a logo doesn't need decorations like drop shadows, or big unnecessary circles that don't give your logo any breathing room.
Every graphic element you incorporate into a logo should have a dictated and stylistic purpose. Even little lines by the sub-name should reflect on the rest of the logo.
The other mistake you made was making "Design" the same font as "Kayleighs". It is always the rule of thumb to use contrasting fonts, or font sizes, to dictate heirarchy.
Keep pushing this, because I think you have a good thing going with the "Kayleighs" word mark. You did the right thing by sizing down the K, now you've got to pull back and really think about how you want this to be presented. Remember, design before decoration.
