Kenya's Keys

Brief from client

I want the logo to embody both the vocal and piano instruction I provide.
Preferably a visual that represents their duality.
I'd like for the first impression of an outsider to be "WOW, I'm excited about learning and can't wait to see where she's gonna take me musically!"
The logo to me means creativity, fun, passion, and learning. Those are words I would use in describing myself.

Kenya teaches piano and voice lessons. she wanted mark that would capture that visually but yet be fun to look at.

I believe we did that without making the mark look chaotic.

Can you post one larger logo that isn't mocked up? It would make it much easier to critique that way.

I like the keyboard incorporated into the K. That "sound pulse" looks like marker scribble though as you have it, and also clashes with the circular highlight. the type looks a bit too stuffy and formal to go with the image. hope that helps.

I second you for a keyboard insertion into " K " . Sound pulse doesn't bring the same effect, thought... That horizontal line that cuts keyboard bugs me. Also, if you don't plan to make the three dark piano keys more dimensional , it does scream " adidas ". Nice start on piano keys on a lower part of " K ". Top part needs something clever, thought. Voice part in your concept - why not try a microphone?

Please point out where you see a hippo?
Please point out where you see a reference to "adidas?"

When I glanced at first at and saw a title " Kenya's " and then that wider part of " K " on that fish eye angle. These three piano keys slanted resemble adidas three stripes brand. That is why they needs to be shaped in more to pull away from that look.

ok I'll give you the hippo lol, but I don't think anyone will draw Adidas out of what he has here- they are piano keys- its pretty obvious to me.

If it would not be for that horizontal line that suddenly cuts piano keys at the top - then it would not be, but... That is way I'm not a fan of that line at all.

These observations of yours are a non-issue. It seems every logo you comment on looks like some strange object. I still don't know how the hell you see a hippo out of this. You really should work on providing feedback that isn't associated with a stretch of the imagination. Just because someone sees a two humped camel in the McDonald's logo, it doesn't harm its image.

Yes Yes YES- this is what I was getting at but wasn't brave enough to say it! lol So thank you! I also don't believe "recreating" your idea of someone else's logo is at all helpful! (and it's annoying as hell).
Amen sir!

The sound pulse looks more like a heart beat. Perhaps if you made it more like a graphic equalizer and did bars. You could take them out all together and the logo wouldn't lack anything.

I would give this a re-work, sorry. The 3-Dimensional K is interesting, but everything beyond that is generic music imagery. The perspective of the keys isn't right, either.

The type isn't half bad. I would try and create a fitting logo that is more similar to that.

I don't think this is as bad as people are making out.

I like it :) It's not what I'd personally go for, but It does the job successfully. I have to Adidas/hippo issues with it at all, so wouldn't listen to that 'criticism'.

It's memorable, vibrant, fun and you made a singing face with piano keys out of a letter 'K' good work.

The only thing I'd change is the pink colour that you've used. Maybe change it to more of a magenta, so you don't alienate potential male customers - like it or not, pink is associated with the female of the species, and I assume you want males as customers. If not then leave it.

I really have no issues at all. It's well executed, stands out, it's a little bit different, it's a potential talking point, works well in black and white and communicates the product that you're offering. I'd go with it, I really would. =)

I agree with what he's saying. I would ditch the equalizer thing as well though. It makes the logo try to do too much, and it doesn't read as an weualizer, but a shadow/highlight, which confuses with the highlight on the left side of the K.

when in doubt, simplify!

Another idea that I think might work is to ditch that horizontal line, make equalizer bars with vertical lines on the same angle as top part of " K " and them merged them with piano keys.

Thanks guys for your input. I tried the equalizer bars and it was clear that it's an over used symbol no matter how it's done. it also made the mark more chaotic and totally clashed with the keys. The client wanted to incorporate voice stream, not sound. the pink color that we have here is not the LOCK UP MARK but one of the color options they wanted. the final version is a 2 color blue.

I appreciate all your comments and feedback...

Okay, then place piano keys on top and bottom of " K " , as teeth draw a throat with a membrane in between and you should be set.

Just let it go, man- let it go! lol

I think we as creatives have an opportunity to be really helpful and we tend to use social media to simply "F@ck IT UP..." THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT SIR. good job man

I'm a bit late to the party and sorry if I poop all over it, but I'm really not feeling this logo.

Although I see a good sense for design behind it, it is way too complicated, with the piano keys, the equalizer thingy, the perspective, etc...

The key word is "simplify".

Keep it up!

I think there is a way to solve this one. I was thinking of equalizing bars placed on their lines to form a letter " K "... What do you think?
