Kirinuki Japan

Brief from client

The Japanese company wanted to show confidence and separate itself from other outsourcing companies who advertise low prices but the quality is also low. The core concept is "Japan Quality." It is an in-house design project, with the design team working for another division of the company.

Kirinuki Japan is a photo and image editing service based in the beautiful and historic city of Takayama, Gifu Pref, in the Hida region of central Japan. The company is the international arm of the DTP division of Dairoku Insatsu Ltd, a printing and graphic communications company with a 100-year history. Kirinuki Japan will begin operations in January 2012.

The branding and logo concept focuses on separating from the competition with confident typography and color scheme, and the idea of "Japan Quality" is the core value. The concept comes from a famous painting of Mt. Fuji, and the mark on its own is similar to the Japanese flag Hinomaru.

I think this is great and you are accomplishing your goal as per your concept.

I gave a thumbs down on the symbol, not for the icon but because I think that it could be improved. To me it looks like a graphic mark that would be simplified further years from now (like some of the great marks that exist today (WWF- Starbucks-etc.). I think you can simplify this either by cleaning and giving symmetry to the water or possibly doing away with the reflection all-together.
....of course years from now someone will simplify that by taking away the mountain, "a perfect circle" saying everything...confidence, quality, Japan... but that might be getting ahead of yourself right now : )

So, I say good job. I would just simplify the reflection in the water.

This works very nice.
Just a question, is your full name KIRINUKI JAPAN or just KIRINUKI?
If it's the first one, you should consider restructuring your composition so the full name doesn't get cut in half by your tagline.

I have the same observation. If "KIRINUKI JAPAN" is the full name of the company it should be placed in a single line. If not, then "JAPAN" should be smaller.
