LGBTQA

Brief from client

Create an eye catching 'branding' to help create an awareness that the UM-Flint Student Success Center-Career Services offers resources for emerging LGBTQ professionals and is a LGBTQ Certified Career Center.

The logo uses two main elements: the first being the shaking hands, visualizing the university's support of the LGBTQ student body and the dedication to preparing these young men and women for the professional job market. The hand on the left uses the schools colors while the hand on the right uses the easily distinguishable rainbow pattern of the LGBTQ community. The second element is the pink triangle: known to have dark beginnings as a symbol of persecution during World War II by the Nazi regime, but was reformed into a symbol of human rights during the 1970s. That readaption from negative to positive connotation, and the significance of the symbol to the LGBTQ community is why I chose to incorporate it into the overall design.

This is way to complicated. Too many things happening at the same time.

The basic idea is ok, but you can't really have the hand shake symbol + the pink triangle plus all these colors. Maybe try to find one basic shape that summerize all this. A heart maybe?

The hand shake really look like you did directly on the computer with the mouse, in under 5 minutes.

All these color don't go well together.

The different stripes and strokes don't have the same angle, which is really annoying visually.

To conclude, the main word here is "simplify". Drastically. The message is being lost among all these shapes and color.

Good luck!

I understand why you have the items you have but it's like you took the path of least resistance and unfortunately it has ended you up with an overly complicated result that you wont easily be able to reproduce. I know the colors are a staple when it comes to identifying with the LGBTQ community but you have to think broader than that. If this is to be a logo it needs to be versatile, clearly communicated, and it needs to be able to function in a one and two color environment. Say this is the deluxe version. What happens when this gets printed in one color? Would you still be able to get the symbolism without the colors? I also agree that the hands look like you didn't spend much time on them. I'll parrot my friend Shawali here and suggest that you rethink and simplify this and I strongly suggest that you start without color. If you can nail they symbol for something so potentially colorful without the aid of color your logo will go a long way. Best of luck.

Before reading the brief, I thought that this was a mix between Tron and gay pride...

I think that it's way too complicated and not sure if the 'humanity' side of things is communicated well with those hard straight lines (which is where the Tron reference came in)

Thank you all for your feedback! I understand that I do need to simply a lot of aspects of the design. I think my problem is that I try to do too much with my designs. I will definitely revisit this in my spare time and post a new version. Thanks again!
