is pretty hard to say is an m , an mj is very far...anyway i like the shape (taken out of the context).

I eventually saw the J in the negative space, but it's a bit too subtle.

looks like an incomplete heart. Without reading your explanation I wouldn't read the M nor the J

My only suggestion is to tilt the MJ to the left a bit maybe just a little less thick so the J in the negative space pops more.
