Your idea is good but I am strongly against web effects from gradients to drop shadows. Your type works well with this design. Your light blue and pink work well just get rid of the gradients.

The solid Black version of this logo is my favorite.

I agree with the above- but would like to add:

- Get rid of the dot in the "a", or give it normal placement (if you must).

-The symbol is way too close to the type.

-I also think the symbol needs to be scaled down- which you will be able to do once you rid it of all the effects:.
