Psydŵr - a brand of Welsh cider

Brief from client
The client wanted a simple design that would work equally well in monochrome as in full colour. Portraying a sense of the apple, but enlivening it and adding some dynamism.

The name Psydŵr comes from the latin 'Psy' and 'dŵr' which is Welsh for water. It is quite a strong drink, so I wanted to portray this but not in an overt fashion. Using the idea of the apple and the snake i.e. temptation from Adam and Eve the snake is formed from the peel of the apple, but the apple shape is also retained.

i like it but i dont think you can tell that its a shape of an apple enough, how about putting the snake head at the bottom and adding a stork/snakes tail and leaf to the top, i think then you will see an apple alot easier. I also think the really thin white lines on the peel will get lost when printed as a label for a bottle so you might want to re-think them, maybe thicken them up or something.
This has some potential for greatness. But you're not quiet there yet.
As M@ pointed out, I really don't see an apple. The snake idea is really great, but it needs a lot of fine tuning
The typeface itself is ok, but the kerning is way off. And more generally, all the characters are way too cramped. You should try to loosen it up a little bit.
Globally, I don't get the idea of a strong drink when I look at this logo. Maybe by making something more aggressive but also more classy, you would get there.
Good luck!
I like a lot about this, but my biggest problem is the overall layout. The symbol is great, but being sandwiched between the text makes it feel less important.
The cryptic name becomes even less understandable split in two. The symbol has potential, but I think the thin background lines are unnecessary. Also, trying to design white on black is putting yourself way ahead of the game. Get the design to hang together first, then experiment with positive and negative treatment. Walk away from the machine and grab a pencil and paper – don't design on the computer. It's a tool, there aren't any ideas in there.
