Brief from client

Client trains self defense to corporate America. One of there biggest training techniques is a 1-up & 1-down method. They really wanted some arrows showing this 1-up, 1-down.

Thanks everyone for any thoughts or suggestions.

This is actually not bad. I wonder if it could be simplified a little bit. Try removing the circle, make the arrows black, so the R is shown in negative space.

Also, just a suggestion...If you're going to spell out the acronym anyway, I don't think it's worth adding the periods.

It really does feel like you turned chicken you-know-what into chicken salad here. The client gave you some odd constraints on this project :)

Thanks, Kill. This actually started out without the circle, but didn't seem to have the weight needed. We were trying to play with a Yin-Yang at first, but it wasn't working.

Maybe the circle can work, but I would suggest playing with the color scheme a bit. I think the reason I'm not too crazy about it is the black/red halves of the circle appears jarring. Try both ways and post them for us!

I agree with TheKillswitch. The periods are totally unnecessary. The red and black is a nice combat color. The font is a bit meh. You might try experimenting with a few different combinations of fonts. Otherwise nice start!

Sorry, I'm really not feeling that logo. I have no idea what the symbol is supposed to represent. I know you want to symbolize the 1 up 1 down thing, but I don't see how it does it.

You don't need the dots after each letter in the word mark, not more than you need the commas.

I would spend more time researching and sketching.
