The client wanted a brand that represented masculinity and kingship, using the colors black and yellow.

Not sure why you chose that font- it takes way from the elegance of the rest of the logo.
I don't think the symbol is successful. It's too complicated. I would get rid of the gradient wings and try to develop either the crown or shield idea. Right now they are a little too "clip art".
It looks too busy. The crown, the shield, the wings, the ornaments under the wings, it's too much.
What shape of shield are you using? I would use the Heater for simplicity and get rid of everything else.
I agree with G about the selection of the font. Try a sans-serif typeface instead.
Gold is a "royal" color but it cannot be abused here.
Perfect for illiterate 'noveau riche' russian oligarch with no sense for design or visual culture.
It's good. My only concern is that it's a little over designed. Remove unnecessary elements and shadows. It will look sharper and more iconic.
I actually like the type and colors. Why not try to include the crown a decorative elements into the shield. Also loose the gradients & wings, they really are not needed.
