Skinner Brothers

Brief from client

Landscaping and Construction company looking for a new logo design.
They do a little more landscaping work than construction so I went with a green color scheme.

Can you explain your idea behind interlocking N & R?
I don't see any relevance to landscaping & construction, in fact I don't see any idea at all.

I put the N interlocking with the R to give it something graphically interesting. And the gradient in the N is meant to show growth.

"to give it something graphically interesting...", sorry but that is ludicrous.
Try to forget your idea about interesting and growth for a moment and try to look at this from a different perspective: this looks like N is pissing in Rs mouth.

Now get serious, find a good creative idea and start over.

You've made an immediate error in your thinking. You've disregarded any other colour other than green just because they work with grass!

Also fully agree with the lack of idea on the N and R it looks odd and has no real purpose. Currently they could have got this same idea without the N and R by going directly to a cheap sign writers who'll roll this out cheaply on all number of crap.

You need to take this away from the computer and sketch up some concepts, off the top of my head you could (and these also could be done to death as I also haven't sketched any ideas out) encapsulate it in a circle with the tag underneath of Landscaping...

Also don't be afraid of using some colour, typical colours are red or blue, avoid orange as its an ass to print. Grey is always a good supporting colour both each of those.

Don't do down the symbol route as I fear that may be a bit complicated for you and for your target audience may not need one so try and stick with killer typography.
