South O. Brewing Craft Beer

Brief from client

Logo for startup Craft Beer that inspires SoCal beach spirit

After showing 2 different styles to the client, I decided to merge the beach motifs with the bolder stylized font that can appeal to craft beer drinkers. i also took the name from inside the letters and made it more evident by having it under the acronym, as some suggested. i think it works better.

I think the palm trees are a bit distracting, but that may just be me. I also like the darker rays from a previous version. Curious why you decided to get rid of the bottom banner?
I definitely think putting the words below was a major improvement.

Hi Cooperads, thanks for your input. After much consideration, got rid of the banner since It was that or the palm trees. :)
also the palm trees were more important since the client was asking for a beach theme (the seagull alone wasnt cutting it) and and that way no matter what the design of the label, the beach objects are there to serve that purpose.

i followed you advise on the darker rays thanks

I think it looks good! I like the darker rays and I totally get that the client gets what the client wants. Nice job!

I like the logo but it looks out of place on your mock up, I think you need to change the colour of the border/mountains to tie in the logo better. At the moment it looks like its just been plonked on

logo is looking great but can I ask why you have trees and mountain range when your logo is based around a beach theme? Seems off.

The concepts of the labels are not finalized since I was only hired for the Logo or now, so I made some examples of how it would work, to get the client excited and to show how it would look in case the label was not directly beach or surf related,

But i'm sure he will name them accordingly to his own surfing experiences. Those mountains were not the best example, maybe more tropical or Hawaiian valley, if that were the case.

Yessss! Now it reads perfectly! And I like that you smoothed out the SOB outlines too. Great improvements! One little nit picky thing- the symbol in the O (I don't know what it is) is centered- but the blue makes it look off center. Maybe fix that optically by moving it just a little to the right. Good job! =)

I really like this logo. Vintage and groovy. Really nicely done!

The only things that bother me a bit are the very clip art looking palm trees and the seagull. I think the logo would work all the same without them.

Thank you Shawali, I didnt love them either but hey, client's wishes. I was thinking of making my own funky customized palm trees

I may be alone in this, but I really like the palm trees. This is fantastic, I'd definitely check out this beer.

I designed the fonts, (Cabbagetown and CabbagetownBook) used for the S.O.B. logo and company name. I get a supply of labels and merchandise if the product ever reaches the market. Commercial licensing negotiations with graphicdesign.media were very amiable. The font is a free download, but I only license to clients; I don't allow purchase of a license by graphic designers for resale to multiple clients.
