Storm Forge (Orange Fire Version)

Brief from client

personal logo

This is a logo I came up with for my own design business, still focusing on a storm/lightning related concept. This concept involves a lighting bolt being "forged" in fire (and if you really wanted to get deep, the lightning symbolizes an idea whereas the forging fire is what makes it a real concept.)

Anyway, I sketched it out to look like an S, a flame, and even a hurricane symbol. This version has a orange/blue color theme that has the lightning encased in orange fire. I have another version that will have grey and represent smoke - both of which I want opinions on.

As with the fonts, the Storm portion is Sucrose (which I don't have the paid font suite for, so I only have the grunge version of the font that is free - I'll buy it if this logo becomes a reality.) Forge is Cinzel.

I personally don't like the storm font, and I can't really say anything more because I don't know what type of business it is.

I explained its for my own graphic design business and even the symbolism with the icon...? The font I used for "Storm" has a solid type version in the font family, but I selected it for its thick and angled sans serif style. I'd prefer the solid version, but I can't justify paying for it if no one likes the shape of the font style.

The paid version and all its variations can be found here:

I have other font options as well, but would like to know if the general style I'm looking for is correct and just requires a slightly different style, or something else entirely.

For the Storm font: whether distressed or solid- it doesn't fit stylewise, in my opinion. It's the "odd man out" in this logo. I'd try other fonts, and they should be solid, NOT distressed.
Forge is playing quite nicely with your logo mark. For added nitpickiness sake- I would sharpen the point on the tail of the letter R to match your logo perfectly, or adjust the logo points (vice versa). =) but, as I said, just for nitpickiness!

I'm glad someone noticed the R, and I'll take you up on that tip. My issue with the type style for storm is that I really want to be pretty heavy, but I also want to avoid a generic helvetica or futura clone if it's going to be a sans serif typeface.

well it's a darn shame the only san serif font out there is helvetica =(

lol, just kidding! Try www.losttype.com - they have some really nice font families to choose from that are not "boring" Good luck!
