Brief from client
Design a logo for a carpentry company named TOTEM, using the colors of the wood or similar
I used a bold sanserif typo to emphasize the force of the name TOTEM and its meaning. Also to make a point with the solvency of the company.
The eroded typo in a lighter color stress the fact of the construction working process wich is the main deal of the company.

I like the log, but I think it could look better if you use it on top, as an element, and not combined with the typography. Maybe avoid using destroyed type as a subtext (I am part of the ones who think that destroyed typos complicate things), center it properly or proportional. Hope my comments are helpful.
What happens to this logo when you can only print/display in black and white?
Also, get away from the distressed subtext. It's only gets harder and harder to read as you reduce in size.
I agree with having a strong sanserif font but I'm not sold on this one and I also don't think it meshes too strongly with your log.
I would explore some alternate ideas. Good luck to you.
