Waist Genie
Brief from client
I'm looking for an illustrated logo for my website Waist Genie (a site for womens shapewear). I really like the look of an Arabian genie--- coming out of the bottle, with focus on the curvy waistline. As far as the lamp goes, I like the shape of the "bottle lamps" (see attachments) because most women admire that shape, as it resembles a woman's curves. I'm open to the font type, I just want something pretty, clean, chic, and girly -- as the site will be primarily for women.

Hi guys, i used to post on the other forum creativebits but since its closed i thought id give it a try.
basically the brief was preety clear and i tried to stick to that taking in consideration that this was meant for the web and also trying to keep it simple as possible like one of my mentors ArtD. used to say.
any comments more than welcomed

here is what i have done so far including the text
Wow, that's a large image!
It's a very nice illustration, but unfortunately you won't notice that much detail when scaled down. However, I think you might have exaggerated her posterior a bit too much.
As a whole, I think your examples with text work, the upper right especially. "shape wear" might be a bit too small, but maybe that's just me being picky.
Ahh good old ArtD :) Were you on Creativebits then?
Very competent illustration. Balanced and well proportioned composition, although this is an illustration and too complex for logo applications in my opinion.
How would you represent it as a favicon for example?
Whoa, mascot got back!
It is a very nice illustration. It probably is too complicated for a logo... but do not abandon it. This can easily be a mascot, or part of the 'bigger' logo, used when there is space.
I know what you can do though to make a smaller logo. It is the lamp. That can be your smaller logo. I don't really like the lamp in yours though, simply because it is a chubby looking lamp and the product is supposed to be something that slims. A sleek, slim lamp that mimics a female form would work, I would suggest overhauling the lamp regardless of what you do.
I am going to comment on colours. The bottom two versions are missing a hairband. Looking at the top left, the blue hairbands turned it instantly to Princess Jasmine's hair in my mind. Even if Jasmine technically has teal ones, I would use a different colour for them entirely.
I think her skin colour is too harsh, especially with the red outfit. It is the colour scheme I would imagine on an evil male genie, not a friendly female genie. Softening her skin colour would go a long way, maybe into either a lighter pink or a lighter version of the purple below. Just keep her skin away from being blue for obvious reasons. (Eden, the female genie in Aladdin, was a soft green and might be a good colour reference.)
Here is a picture of a slimmer lamp.
Good job i'm not on a 56k dial up with these massive images btw ;)

The image is a great illustration but for a logo it is tooooo complex and the image denotes a Disney themed character. Logos need to be very simple and sends a message about the brand. The more complex the image the less it says about the brand. In this case, the focus seems to be on the little girl side of being a woman. Not a good message when handling undergarments and sexuality. My suggestions would be to use just a "curvy lamp" shape. One or two colors at the most with no gradients they do not translate well on all mediums.

Yeah i was on creativebits, been inactive for years but never forgot all great comments and feed back i used to get to polish my work. i miss qwerty and all the guys but hey you guys are keeping that alive here so i appreciate you take your time to see my work and commenting.
and great feedback on colors waffle i will see into that i think that should make it look better
I like most of the line work. But there is a place near the corset that needs to be fine tuned. Though like another commenter my immediate feeling was that I was looking at Jasmine from Aladdin. I'd actually like to see less detail on the figure and perhaps you could think about transforming the figure coming out of the lamp to just a swirl of smoke wearing a corset? And just hint at the shape of a woman?
Nice
This is quite a good illustration, but I'm not sure if it's a fit for a logo since it's a bit too elaborate.
Have you tried the 100px test? Take the largest dimension on your logo and reduce it to 100px. If at that size features of the logo are lost (usually the font is unreadable) then you may need to simplify them.
The attached image is the genie at 100px high. It actually works very well, I thought the facial features would be lost. However, this could change once you add the name.
I think the genie is showing her butt more than her waist. Also, her boobs sticking out convey the idea of being large as well, taking away priority over the waist.
The lamp has a good design but a slimmer lamp may be a better fit. The lamp doesn't resemble a waistline, which is your main objective.
I would steer away from reds and purples, I would go with pastels to move away from the strong sexual connotation reds and purples may have.
Your execution is very, very good.
Good Illustration.
I choose this version!
yeah it is a little close from Disney's character.
apart of that i think i like it overall, as for the drawing being too complex, i would say it depends what application this is gonna be used on.
