Your critiques for my new logo

Brief from client
It's new logo design for Tactical Store.
This is just draft.
Tactical Store sells military, tactical, hunting and outdoor cloths and gear.
Main customers are military personnel, hunters, hikers, aviators, search & rescue members, outdoor activism and ordinary guys who just want mil-spec gear/cloth.
If anyone suggest anything or offer a better design I warmly welcome it.

What software did you use to make this logo? It looks very rough and fuzzy.
The basic idea of the logo doesn't look too bad, but even for a draft, it looks pretty bad. As a rule of thumb, always sketch your drafts on paper.
The top of the sword shouldn't be hidden by the beret. It's hard to see it's actually a T. Also, the top serif of the S looks detached from the rest of the character.
The colors are bit too dark and dull.
On another note, could you please remove the link, even if they're from the competition ? We're having so much spam that we tend to get fidgety with links towards commercial sites =) Thanks.

I'm a horrible in designing. I used photoshop.
I'm going to show it to a designer to make logo out of it.
At first glance can't help of think of it but the image of Curtis Sliwa, a founder of 1979 " Guardian Angels " who fought against subway violence in New York City. This one with a proper development and many tweaking could shape into a solid logo.
