Zé Malandro & the Forty Thieves

Brief from client

Zé, the traditional samba 'Malandro' (white-suit, white hat Brazilian hustler from the 50s) finds himself lost in the mysterious and exotic world of the Arabian Nights. Design a logo for the London School of Samba's 2011 Notting Hill Carnival theme "Zé Malandro & The Forty Thieves" that references the magical stories of 1001 Nights and throws some element of the traditional Brazilian malandro into the mix. To be used on banners, flyers, t-shirts, websites etc.

It's a bit of a mess right now. You have to simplify a lot. I like the typeface for the "the forty thieves" text. I think for the rest of the text you should pick a simpler typeface that's easier to read.

I see what you are trying to do with the text coming out of the Genie lamp.. But it is distracting as is. Either work on the flow or toss the idea. The symbol idea is good, but it is a bit too much right now.

looks complicated, I agree with BOTW.
try more in the simplified, not too many effects.
because it is difficult to read.

Boa idéia, procure diminuir o número de objetos na tela, está meio carregado!

Sorry this is an unreadable mess. Try to imagine this logo at 2,5 cm size, or even better, scale it down to 2,5 cm and tell me what you see.
