Canal Cycle
Brief from client
A bicycle hire company in Amsterdam would like a custom logo design. Canal Cycle is situated in a popular tourist area within the city & would like to appeal to visitors with a strong & modern, typographic logo. They would love a logo using custom type, so be creative & bold!
Target Audience: City Cyclers
This is a brief from a website called briefbox which has a lot of practice briefs. I am new to logo design so I thought it would be good practice to start there.
Going on the reference and the brief provided I created script lettering with thick lines and not too much contrast between them, which to me stands out and shows boldness. Also I tried to achieve that modern feel with the script.
I am new to logos and eager to learn so please don't hold back.
Thank you

There a re two ways of looking at this logo.
The first one is that it doesn't work at all. Though the hand lettering style is always a good idea, this isn't looking good. The strokes aren't consistent enough, so is the x-height. Try to avoid duplicating a character to use it somewhere else in the word. This is a bit lazy and make your logo looks a bit amateurish.
That being said.
The other way of looking at this is: this is great!! I'm not kidding. When I took a second gander at this logo, I thought of an old hand made logo from the 30's and I can totally see it within the constraint of the right branding guidelines. Something to make it look as if it was hand made almost a century ago, with a great artisanal twist to it. But this could only work if we see this applied to several types environment, not just on this own.
Keep it up!
Thanks for the advice I appreciate it, Regarding the strokes I now see the inconsistency, I will pay special attention to fixing that.
So if I understand correctly this logo does not work too well as a logo on its own, it needs one or two elements to compliment it(not clutter) to turn into something memorable for the brand or maybe just add more pop/impact to the logo?
I like the idea of an old hand made script, but this is inconsistent and makes it look amateurish, the "E" in cycle looks like the "L" in Canal.
