Anyway, this is really looking good. The kerning in the main font is screwing things a bit, though. Funny thing I just discovered: when you google it, the word "kerning" is kerned every time it's mentioned =)
Globally, I would tweak this a little more so it's more "you" than Joe White. It's looking really cool, but for me it looks way too much like what JW would have done. Changing the colors would be a step in that direction, even they totally works as it is.
trust me, i dont find my selve in that style, but it was the style that the client wont. He shows me some model to based on and yep who can be the best inspiration for doing that...JOE WHITE...a designer must do every kind of logo and i tried of doing something good. You think that the character type is not good?
Lol, I've got to set the record straight as this peice is clearly inspired by the Sanborn Map company. Its very true that I'm inspired by the Sanborn Map company too, but I usually would avoid using there specific style. Mostly as there are lots of illustrator brush's available. - http://www.behance.net/gallery/Sanborn-Vector-Elements/10479891
I can see that you've not used these yourself, but its good to avoid this very specific style of decoration as its going to be used by a lot of other designers. And ultimately it is the branding for Sanborn. (For the record, I've used Sanborn elements only in my personal work for my own company's, never for clients!)
My main focus is to create the intricate detailing that Sanborn has, but hopefully in my own unique style. What I really enjoy most about the Sanborn work, is that it was made during a time, when details like this had to be done by hand. It all follows a very strict set of rules too.
I really do like this piece, but for the reason above, It would be great to see some variations to the decoration style. Use the frame work that you have but see how else you add a sense of uniqueness.
You could add in some symbols from the men's wear area. Maybe a needle and thread or some pin stripes.
And finally, you've got to watch the kerning, just make sure all the letters have even spacing between them.
Will look forward to seeing more from this.
being inspirited on one style is not meaning coping or make it not your style (even it is not mine) but it is taking the best of everything of all to make one perfect one for your client, and i was trying to draw the logo depicted on someone that is best on it. I really been inspired from you and from Sanborn (specially from you). I took a look from all to get something good. But i think if im concentrated, if i draw that, if i created that no meter style is, it is my style for that one i have created. Im trying to took the best for everyone above all my style. :) i took your advice, i have upload other versions, Hope for you advice again couse really, you are really really important for me in this style
I could have swarn that this was a Joe White job until i seen your name Spinnacer! that being said i really like it! u need to adjust the kerning slightly, and i would agree with whats Joe has said.. your elements look to much like Sanborn's you need to find a way to make them your own
This is the Sanborn work, A massive massive inspiration to me, all of the tiny intricate details would have all been developed by hand. But the one thing I really aim to make sure of is to create unique styled work. So I'm honoured that you see my work as something similar to Sanborn, but in this case it would be great to note how this has been used.
With my own work, I aim to make something intricate detailed and balanced, but I would usually strongly avoid the specific Sanborn style.
There are many many other designer out there who work in the Sanborn, If its something that you are going to use, its good to do justice to the original work aswell - http://dribbble.com/kevinrcantrell
Anyway, In this instance, its something the client would like to see, so its a great job and you've done well. But I hope the info above has helped out in setting aside what's what in terms of being unique and being inspired from already existing master pieces.
Haha! This is exactly how Sanborn makes me feel, such genuinly awesome work. A lot of the images on the blog site are in high res if you open them in a new window ;)

I thumbed down the typography just because of the bad kerning. The choice of font is really cool.

Just to be clear, I did not mean that you copied what Joe White's done.
You've been heavily inspired by him, haven't we all. It's just that I think there's not enough of you in here and too much of him =)
Anyway, your client can be happy he got himself a damn find logo (besides de kerning =)
I gotta say it again, but it is clearly inspired by Sanborn, its in fact just a Sanborn style frame. Its a very very specific style of line work.
