This looks really nice. I would probably simplify the hat one step further and move the band of the hat so there isn't that small indent by the arc.

Also, is the subtext really necessary? It looks great without it.

The subtext it has to be there, the client don`t want to remove it, otherwise it will not make too much sense because it means "covered head". I also try taking of the band and it looses the shape of the hat.

This is what we are meaning by using the negative space as a band. You don't need that extra little ledge on the bottom. This is simple and works well. Everything else is looking good on this logo. A huge improvement from the first version posted.

Yes, exactly. Don't remove the band entirely, this addresses the issue I mentioned.
