Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows News
Brief from client
The News needed a rebrand to separate itself from its competitor in the city. They want their new brand to be clean, corporate, and authoritative, but also honest, engaging, and community-driven.
The new look was also to improve the public's perception and solidify its place as the main trusted news source in the community.
Trying out a bit of a different look. The circle icon seems to be a bit too complicated and cumbersome when I'm working it into the front page design.
Went with a rectangle because the edges are more serious, it could resemble a newspaper (might be a stretch), and still works as a badge. The subtle diagonal lines are to add just a bit a texture. The underline is to enforce ideas of authority.
Made a few adjustments to the wordmark just to get some thoughts. The main difference is that Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows now only runs up to the centre W line whereas it ran to the edge of the S before.

I think I like this better than the circle ones- those reminded me of some other logo that I can't put my finger on. The only things that bother me about this is that it KINDA looks like the "E!" logo, and the two names above "news". I'm not too sure about the placing of those. Could you raise News up to be even with the top of the logo and toss the names under it instead?
Once again I agree with saraqroxy, I just disagree about the symbol... I think its good.
I like it !
