You do not need to have an Icon and again a symbol within the text. You need to loose one of them, otherwise they will clash with each other for attention.
Yea i completely agree.. Also i find it hard to read CODEPEN with the symbol making the O.
Why dont you try adapting the main top symbol into the same style as how you have the O, that way you still have that original symbol but its just been adapted to the new company
you can't have a successful logo that contains essentially two "sub" logos. Just never going to work. There might be a subtle way to hint at it, but as is, this is doomed to fail.
My name and part of my brand is dependent on CodePen's brand and name, I can't disassociate them, it's a fact of my circumstances.
Now, WHO says we can't have two "sub" logos? All design principles are mere guidelines. Under my circumstances I'm basing a lot of decisions on those guidelines while exploring other areas those guidelines don't cover, and coming up with new ideas.
Actually, this has been a great exercise for me that shows me how I can create something new that some designers have a hard time accepting.
In contrast I've had other designers like the logos and support me on the decisions I've made.
Doomed to fail? Nah, I won't fail on this I can assure you that.

Makes sense.
Here's the thing: We promote the tool CodePen.io, so for us having their logo 'inside' ours is the way we think people would recognize what we do.
I admit is unusual.
Will take note of your comment.
Thanks!
